The Role
This is an exciting time to join this already busy team. Unprecedented growth driven by innovation has created an opportunity within the Packaging R&D Team. This role is all about creating winning solutions, in a European, multi-site business; combining your technical knowledge, judgement and flair. You will manage and deliver activities to support the development of new and existing products whilst contributing to a deeper understanding of target consumers and pack solutions. You will be expected to accurately scope and define projects in line with the business strategy, identify key milestones and deliverables, able to communicate progress and drive projects to a successful conclusion against plan. This means full life cycle, from concept to delivery, factory to the bin, ensuring that along the way theconsumer benefits, functional requirements and sustainablility targets are taken account of and needs met.
As an expert in your field you will be expected to coach and mentor your colleagues, permanent and temporary, raising standards and awareness, encouraging best practice, as well developing and maintaing packaging innovation networks across the global group and key external bodies with a view to keep R&D at the forefront of advances in new packaging design and development.
Skills and Qualifications
The successful applicants will be degree qualified ( or equivalent) in Science, Technology or Engineering, alternatively have completed a Packaging Qualification (IOP / IOM3 / ESIEC) You will have a history of innovation, using your knowledge of materials and machinery to design, develop and deliver to market creative packaging solutions with market leading potential. You will demonstrate understanding of packaging technologies, e.g. carton conversion, injection moulded plastic, plastic films, and have a firm grasp on the demands of an FMCG Supply Chain that spans the globe.
You
This role requires interface with stakeholders across the business and beyond, including Operations, Engineering, Marketing, and External Suppliers so your communication skills, written and verbal will need to be top notch to facilitate co-operation and knowledge exchange, as well as negotiating positive outcomes to problems as they arise. A consummate professional, driven and creative, confident in your own ability and knowledge you will also appreciate the value of ongoing learning and self development to ensure you remain ahead of the pack – and that R&D remain at the leading edge of innovation. This is a busy and challenging role with mutiple projects on the go so planning and organisational skills are vital to success in the role, as is the ability to make decisions, even if you don’t have all the information.
